As he left, lālā ʻōiwi Ezra-Pohaku Manaea arrived and took his tools and gas and began the 2nd shift along with nā lālā ʻōiwi Lopaka Oliveira, Nathan Nahina, Kalimapau and Michelle Cabalse. Haumāna remained involved as they learned new information. Questions and answers kept everyone present as the science of semiotics was explained to all of them today. Haumāna learned the importance of the Solstice pōhaku by reading its relationship to the landmarks on the Koʻolau Range and journey of the sun across the skies. The longest day of the year, June 21 st Summer Solstice, will occur in three days. Dawson, Commander USARMY Garrison Hawaiʻi, his family and escorts were joined by Colonel Thomas J. Barrett, USARMY AWC (US) Hawaiʻi and his escorts for a Piko Listening Journey with kiaʻi Tom Lenchanko. They brought with them hoʻokupu of naio and ʻaʻaliʻi plants from the Oʻahu Army Natural Resources Program on Schofield. Following site interpretation, the Colonels proceeded to plant their hoʻokupu on the slopes of the makahalau...pololei This was a great Summer Solstice, many visitors today... ho okupu of naio and ʻaʻaliʻi are in the ground. Kulia I Ka Pono O ahu - Strive for Righteousness - examines the concept of alu like, or to work in unity, in order to promote the relationships that we have with the āina. Students work to develop personal leadership skills through hands-on experiences around the island of O ahu. Students visit various cultural sites on the mokupuni of O ahu and experience different ways of working together in diverse communities. Students are encouraged to adapt these ways of alu like within their own communities when they leave our program, says Coordinator Kilipaki Solatorio. Aloha e Kamehameha Schools for bringing nearly 100 haumāna this June to begin their 9 th grade Exploration week at Wahi Kapu ʻo Kūkaniloko. Acknowledging our past, as we prepare for our future, through our nā ʻōpio, our Hawaiian National Treasures...eō 06.26.2k18... Just 5 Days is a nationwide project for Catholic Middle School students. Today, 20 haumāna from the continent, our outer islands and Oʻahu came to Kūkaniloko to volunteer to clean up. We started with a Piko Listening Journey with Kumu Kalimapau, followed by an intense two and a half hour raking project. Winter grasses are high and takes several passes with the lawn mower.
